UCI Welcomes Christopher Yang as Inaugural Eddleman Postdoctoral Fellow

The University of California, Irvine (UCI) is proud to announce the selection of Christopher Yang as the first Eddleman Postdoctoral Fellow. Yang, completed his PhD at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) and joined UCI’s Department of Physics and Astronomy in late August.

Yang, who earned his BA from UC Berkeley, is finalizing his doctoral studies under the guidance of Professor Gil Refael at Caltech. His research interests focus on theoretical studies of non-equilibrium quantum systems and their potential applications in real materials.

The Eddleman Postdoctoral Fellowship is a prestigious position within the tri-school collaboration of Caltech, UC Santa Barbara, and UCI. While primarily affiliated with UCI’s Condensed Matter Theory group, Yang is anticipated to engage with a broad range of faculty and students at UCI’s Eddleman Quantum Institute (EQI) and beyond. This aligns with the fellowship’s goal of fostering interdisciplinary research and collaboration.

The selection process was overseen by a committee of distinguished UCI faculty members: Sasha Chernyshev, Filipp Furche, and Ilya Krivorotov. Their efforts in screening and interviewing candidates have been instrumental in identifying an exceptional researcher for this groundbreaking position.

This appointment marks an exciting new chapter for quantum research at UCI and strengthens the collaborative ties between Caltech, UCSB, and UCI in the field of quantum science and technology.
