The Quantum Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (QUROP)

The application window for the 2024 Quantum Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program (QUROP) is now open!

QUROP supports undergraduate students doing research in the broad area of quantum science. At least 26 faculty members at UCI are currently working in this exciting, developing area as detailed in the Eddleman Quantum Institute (EQI) website: https://eqi.uci.edu.

Summer research fellowships are available for UCI undergraduate students under QUROP with an application deadline of April 5, 2024 for the summer of 2024.

The program is aimed at students with some prior research experience who plan to continue an intensive, faculty mentored research experience in quantum science over the summer.  The fellowships are typically for 10 weeks, with a commitment of 20 hours per week.  However, the total time commitment is flexible and should be appropriate for the proposed project.  The award amounts are flexible and dependent on student need and the time commitment of the project.  They are capped at $3,000 and are provided to students in one or two stipends.

Interested students should apply through the Summer Undergraduate Research Program (SURP) website at (https://urop.uci.edu/urop-opportunities/#surp).  Applications should have a project title starting with QUROP, e.g. “QUROP: Project Title.”

Eligibility Requirements:

-Current UCI undergraduate student through at least fall quarter 2024

-Good academic standing

-UCI Faculty Mentor guidance in the area of quantum science

-Some prior research experience. Recommended: at least one quarter working on a research project in quantum science at UCI
